Inserting a widget into a document

For an introduction to widgets and a summary of the various widget types, see Providing Flash-based analysis and interactivity: Widgets.

To insert a widget into a document

  1. Open the document in Design or Editable Mode.

  2. If the document does not contain a dataset in the Dataset Objects panel, add a dataset to the document by selecting Add Dataset from the Data menu. For steps, see Adding and removing a dataset.

  1. From the Widgets drop-down list , select a type of widget. For a description of widget types, see Providing Flash-based analysis and interactivity: Widgets.

  2. Click a location on your document in which to place the widget. You cannot place the widget in the Detail section of a document. The widget template is displayed. A small icon is displayed at the bottom right of the widget template, identifying the type of widget that you added to the document.

  3. If desired, resize the widget by clicking and dragging its handles.

  1. Each type of widget requires a specific number, type, and arrangement of report objects on its widget template. Use the links below to define the type of widget you are working with. For a table listing all report object requirements for all widgets, see Data requirements for widgets: Quick reference table.

Note: Report objects included on the widget template must come from the same dataset.

  1. Some widgets can display data from more than one Grid/Graph. For these widgets, you can specify one or more Grid/Graphs as secondary data providers.

  1. View and test your results by selecting Flash Mode from the View menu.
